Persons with disabilities are entitled to all the rights and privileges of persons without disabilities.
 
In 1982, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms came into existence with the patriation of the Canadian constitution. Section 15 of the Charter states that persons with disabilities are equal before and under the law and have the right to protection from discrimination.

In the Declaration of the Decade for Persons with Disabilities – 1992 - 2002, the Canadian government enunciated several principles that guarantee full access to benefits and programs for persons with disabilities as it does for persons without disabilities.
