As you have learned, it’s important to determine who is in your community and what resources may be required to meet a variety of information needs. Several suggestions for finding out more about your community are listed below. While not all of these may be relevant to your community; the process itself is the key idea and may help you form a plan to gather information.

What are the demographics of my community?

Statistics Canada provides current information based on census data and survey results. At the top of the page is a link titled “Community Profiles” where you will be able to get information about specific communities in Canada.

Provincial information can be found at the Government of Alberta homepage. More specific information may be reviewed by going to the section titled “About Alberta” located in left hand side of the screen.

Demographic information is located within the Alberta Finance site. Download the most recent Quarterly Demographic Statistics to find the most current demographic information about the province itself. This information can assist you in seeing how the demographics are changing in this province. This will give you some insight into who is in the province and who has recently arrived in Alberta.
